Woodley, Dern on board for 'Big Little Lies' season 2

Big Little Lies Season 2 cast

Perry Wright may not be coming back for season 2 of Big Little Lies (at least as far as producer Bruna Papandrea knows!), but the rest of the gang most certainly will! Bonnie Carlson (Kravitz) will confront her past while struggling to come to terms with Perry's death.

The Emmy Award winning show has previously featured the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Hollywood legend Meryl Streep, and when they announced their season two commission, the USA premium channel said 'most of the cast is expected to return, and negotiations are underway'.

It wasn't exactly troubling that it took so long for Woodley, Dern and Kravitz to sign on, since there was virtually no way any of these women would pass on the opportunity to bring this story back to life, but we're relieved nonetheless that they're officially on board. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will again executive produce in addition to starring. This worked in everyone's favor, as each star secured a much-deserved pay rise for the show's much anticipated second season. The finale featured the death of Celeste's abusive husband Perry.

Season two will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Streep is Mary Louise Wright: Concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry's death, Mary Louise arrives in Monterey searching for answers. There is the potential of emotional and bodily injury.

Big Little Lies' second season is expected to premiere on HBO in the USA and Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom in 2019. "That we were able to get Season 2 together is a small miracle".
