Craig Mack has reportedly died at age 46

Rapper Craig Mack, best known for the song "Flava in Ya Ear", has died aged 46.

It's being reported that Mack, who rose to fame after joining Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records and then released the mega smash "Flava In Ya Ear", died in the early hours of this morning. Released nearly 25 years ago in 1994, it became very popular thanks to its all-star remix that featured LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, The Notorious B.I.G. and Rampage.

After the huge commercial success of the original single, the song's remix introduced hip hop fans to "The Notorious BIG", whose debut "Ready To Die" turned out to be even more successful by outselling Mack's "Project: Funk Da World" by a significant amount.

Mack released his second album "Operation: Get Down" in 1997 before quitting music to devote his life to religion. It was only just recently that the much beloved Rick Ross [VIDEO] was reportedly in the hospital on life support.

Born in Queens, New York, Craig Mack would later leave NY and rap music in exchange for the South.

Close friend DJ Scratch posted on Instagram, "I just got a disturbing phone call".

Alvin Toney, an executive producer on Project: Funk Da World, said: "God bless my friend". "I can not believe this dude is gone", said Scratch on Instagram.

"Craig was my roadie on tour".

'He was prepared for whatever comes, to go home to the Lord. However, in 2017, he released a new album, "The Mack World Sessions".

Referencing the lyrics of Flava In Ya Ear, he added: "May he kick that ol' robotic, futuristic, George Jetson insane [expletive] in the infinite".

Rapper Biz Markie also paid tribute, saying: "He had two flawless singles and the platonic rap remix".

Toney told the New York Daily News he had seen Mack in SC last week.
