Danny Woodhead and Austin Howard could come back to Ravens this offseason

Lardarius Webb's release brings opportunity for Maurice Canady and Chuck Clark

Alex Collins emerged as a quality back for the Ravens last season, and with Woodhead out of the fold, Collins is now set to carry the load in 2018 with support from Javorius Allen and Kenneth Dixon.

A third-round draft pick out of Nicholls State in 2009, Webb played nine seasons with the Ravens, appearing in 127 regular-season games, with 85 starts. "James is a reliable, tough and versatile player who has played a lot of football for us".

San Diego utilized him as a pass catching weapon out of the backfield, as he racked up 167 receptions for over 1,400 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in his four years with the team. But with Hurst and Alex Lewis expected to start in some configuration at left guard and right tackle, there's a need for quality depth at tackle.

An undrafted free agent out of Chadron State in Chadron, Nebraska, Woodhead's National Football League career began as a member of the New York Jets. That's when he aggravated a hamstring injury and was eventually placed on injured reserve. The size of the contract suggests Hurst, who had been mostly a dependable and versatile backup prior to 2017, will be a starting lineman for Baltimore for seasons to come.

Howard started all 16 games for the Ravens in 2017 after spending the previous three seasons in Oakland.

Webb also served as the Ravens' return specialist at times, with a 95-yard kickoff return as a rookie and a 68-yard punt return touchdown in 2011. The Ravens freed up $3 million of cap space in a move that was anticipated after Baltimore re-signed James Hurst to a four-year, $17.5 million contract on Monday.

Webb transitioned from cornerback to safety in 2016. It marks the second-consecutive offseason that Baltimore has cut Webb.

Free agency officially begins March 14, but as of March 12, teams could begin negotiating with pending free agents from other teams.
