Marcus Rashford Hails Jose Mourinho's Influence on Development Amid Rumours of Discontent

José Mourinho has branded Frank de Boer the "worst manager in the history of the Premier League" after the Dutchman questioned the Manchester United manager's handling of Marcus Rashford.

That proof comes in the form of a statistic which shows Rashford has made more Manchester United appearances than any other player since Mourinho took charge at the start of the 2016-17 season.

The former Crystal Palace manager told BT Sport that it is "a pity" Rashford plays under Mourinho after the England global marked his first league start of the year with both goals against Liverpool. Does he play every match from the start? No.

The United boss had an acerbic response to hand when he addressed a news conference ahead of Wednesday's (AEDT) UEFA Champions League showdown with Sevilla, seemingly holding De Boer responsible for Palace's slump extending to seven winless and scoreless matches as Roy Hodgson picked up the pieces at Selhurst Park.

He has three goals in this season's Champions League and with vital games against Sevilla in the knock-out stages of that competition, an FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton and a huge derby clash with Manchester City all coming up in the next four weeks, Rashford could be Mourinho's go-to man once more.

"If he [Rashford] was coached by Frank, he would learn how to lose because he lost every game", Mourinho said.

As for Sevilla, manager Vincenzo Montella has made just one adjustment to the team which started the goalless draw in Spain last month.

"The result in the first leg leaves everything open, we don't feel we have any advantage, we are going to try to prove we are better but we don't have any advantage at all". What he was saying was not good for Marcus Rashford to have a coach like me because the most important thing for me is to win. I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that were responsible for his formation, and to Mr [Louis] Van Gaal who was responsible for his first season.

Mourinho believes United will have a chance of winning the trophy if they progress.

Paul Pogba returns to the squad after a minor injury, but the club's record signing must do with a place among the replacements.

Carrick is set to join United's coaching staff in the summer.
