Xiaomi rolls out MIUI 9 stable ROM for all compatible devices

Xiaomi has finally completed the MIUI 9 Global ROM release program for all the eligible Mi and Redmi series phones.

Xiaomi India VP and India MD Manu Kumar Jain on Monday announced the availability of MIUI 9 to all compatible devices in India.

According to Jain's tweet, Xiaomi is updating most of the devices in its kitty to MIUI 9 in India. "That's why we're even updating the phones that were launched nearly 4 years ago - Mi 3 and Redmi 1S", reads Jain's tweet.

With this global roll out, the company covers even the most dated smartphones from the company- Redmi 1S and Mi 3. "We just had our MIUI 9 Global launch event in New Delhi, India and as promised, MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM will start rolling out".

MIUI 9 comes with a bunch of features affecting usability, performance and optimisations for enhanced experience. It also includes a smart app launcher, which is responsible for suggesting apps related to the work user is doing on the screen, for example - it can suggest the dialler app whenever users select a phone number. First, the universal search feature, which will bring a powerful search engine on a Xiaomi phone that can differentiate your image like you do by typing in keywords.

The MIUI 9 update will come as an OTA update on compatible devices. The MIUI 9 update will be available via OTA (over-the-air) in a phased manner. Besides, users can also check for it manually by heading to the Updater app. Xiaomi also reiterated that since it is in the habit of updating nearly all its devices, phones dating back to the Mi 2 (which was launched in 2012) will also be eligible for the MIUI 9 update.

For the ones who are used to flashing their phones, they can download the update from the MIUI forum. The devices will get the update only in batches. Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 5 at 3 pm on Wednesday (14 March) in India.

It needs to be noted that Xiaomi is seeding an operating system based on Android 7.0 Nougat at a time when Google is preparing to release Android 9.0 or Android P. Xiaomi has not disclosed its plans for Android 8.0 Oreo yet. The smartphone will sport a 12-megapixel rear camera, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash.
