Carlos Hyde to sign three-year deal with Browns

Hyde, who attended Ohio State, led the San Francisco 49ers in rushing each of the past three seasons. The move comes in response to speculation that Hyde may not fit 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's outside-zone offense. Originally a second-round choice in 2014, Hyde said repeatedly during the season that he hoped to remain with the only National Football League team he'd ever played for. He's not going to be a threat to Johnson's receptions, which hit a career-high (74) in 2017.

The 49ers negotiated with Hyde throughout the season but the two sides never came to an agreement. Yet, McKinnon was clear in his free agency mission of wanting a bigger opportunity, not to play second or even third fiddle behind a healthy Cook and possibly Murray, so it'll be fascinating to see what exactly the Niners have in mind for him in their backfield alongside Jimmy Garoppolo.

With the Browns paying Hyde $5 million a season for the next three seasons, it means Barkley could potentially get his wish of playing alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning. Despite a host of bad news that year, Hyde's MCL tear didn't require surgery, at least.

The Giants ranked 26th in rushing last season and certainly have a need to upgrade at running back. In addition, he had 350 receiving yards which was more than double his previous career high.

The #Browns are expected to sign former #49ers RB Carlos Hyde, source said. Signing Todd Haley as their new offensive coordinator was another step in the right direction. Hyde only adds to that.

With Hyde and Johnson both in Cleveland, the Browns may feel there are more pressing needs to address with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, such as quarterback, rather than spend it on another running back in Barkley.

Anything is possible. This is still the Browns, after all, and Barkley's a special talent who would make any team better.

The Browns are looking to add some offensive firepower to the roster after they went 0-16 a year ago.
