France to sue Google, Apple over developer contracts- minister

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire says he will take legal action against Google and Apple for abusive business practices, a move that could result in fines of "several million euros".

The report noted statements by Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire saying he had become aware that Alphabet Inc's Google and Apple unilaterally imposed prices and other contractual terms on software developers.

"I will have Google and Apple taken to the Commercial Court of Paris for abusive trade practices, because I believe that Google and Apple, no matter how powerful they are, can not treat our start-ups and our developers the way they are doing today".

"All that is unacceptable and it's not the economy that we want. They can't treat our start-ups and developers the way they do", he said, according to the Financial Times.

Le Maire also commented on new tax measures the European Union is planning to apply to tech companies making online sales in Europe. According to recent reports, European Union officials are working on a new tax that would see major technology companies pay between two per cent and six per cent of their revenues in taxes.
