Headingley RCMP arrest gang member for drunk driving

It all began at 5 a.m. Wednesday, when a rural property owner reported his snowmobile had been stolen.

An alleged full-patch member of an outlaw motorcycle gang is in custody after the RCMP says one of its officers was nearly hit by a passing motorist during a traffic stop near Winnipeg.

RCMP say when the officer went to arrest the male driver, a physical confrontation ensued.

The Mounties say one officer suffered a head injury after being kicked, another suffered a knee injury and a third injured a hand.

The suspects were reportedly driving a dually vehicle and had stolen black copper wire and oil site batteries.

The supect then fled on the snowmobile, but not before he retrieved his dog (a chocolate lab, according to the release) from the truck.

Calgary police sent out a HAWCS helicopter to assist, and spotted the snowmobile stuck in a stand of trees, about six kilometres away from the abandoned truck and trailer.

Two Central Alberta men have been arrested after two break and enters in Red Deer County. The 34-year-old remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police said the 34-year-old faces 18 charges from the incident but can not be named as the charges have not yet been sworn.

The suspect will be facing 18 charges as a result of the incident, including assault of a police officer, flight from police and unsafe driving.

At the time of his arrest, the man was wanted on 29 outstanding warrants from various detachments.

A gang member was taken into custody in Winnipeg after an RCMP officer was almost struck during a routine traffic stop.

Officers have determined the truck and trailer used in the heist were stolen from Okotoks and Taber, respectively.

RCMP said it is their continued mandate to apprehend repeat offenders and partner with citizens to ensure the safety of the communities they serve.
