Google is Giving Gmail a Makeover 'In the Coming Weeks'

US Defense Secretary James Mattis Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and Pentagon Comptroller David Norquist testify before the House Armed Services Committee in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill

Gmail has had the same user interface for quite some time, but it looks like Google is looking to change some things around. Google took the time to outline some of the new features that will be coming along with this redesign, and even though the list is fairly short, it paints an exciting picture for someone who's bored with Gmail's current look.

Google announced the incoming redesign in an email to G Suite subscribers, which The Verge managed to get a copy of. In addition to the new look, the update also brings some new features including the snoozing of emails, and a Smart Reply function.

The ability to snooze emails is nice, which will let users pick and choose which messages appear in their inbox at a later date. This is a good way to clean your inbox if you can't reply to a specific email just yet. Google did confirm to The Verge that a redesign is indeed on the way, but said that it'll be a little while longer before it'll be ready to share more.

The last tidbits are easier access to G Suite apps from within Gmail and offline support.

Google in the coming weeks will be launching an Early Adopter Program (EAP) for a new version of Gmail.

With the launch of the EAP, Gmail will not initially have offline support, but Google promises that "native offline support in the new Gmail experience" will be available by June 2018. The company recommends "testing any critical Chrome extensions before more broadly enabling the new Gmail experience within your organization".

According to the search giant, it will make available an Early Access Program for both G Suite and Gmail users with standard personal accounts.
