Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's Royal Wedding Guests: Obamas, Trumps Aren't Invited

Despite the wedding being an important national occasion, Harry is not in the direct line of succession - unlike his elder brother, Prince William, who had no choice but to invite dozens of politicians and Commonwealth representatives to his 2011 Westminster Abbey nuptials. "Her Majesty's Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household".

Peterborough's Faith Dickinson received the Diana Award, presented by from Prince William and Prince Harry, in 2017 for her "Cuddles for Cancer" charity.

Harry and US actress Markle, who will marry at Windsor Castle on May 19, have drawn large cheering crowds whenever they have appeared in public since their engagement was announced last November.

The Obamas have a warm relationship with Harry, leading to speculation they would be at Windsor Castle for the wedding.

Malcolm Turnbull will also not be on the list, although the Australian Prime Minister was not expecting an invitation. In fact, a royal source said: "Both the couples look forward to seeing each other soon".

The omission of Commonwealth leaders is particularly surprising as they may see it as a snub.

Though reports circulated that the royal family was afraid that extending an invite to the Obamas would offend the current president, it's more likely that the reason for the tight guest list has to do with location.

A volunteer social enterprise worker is "very excited" at her invitation to the royal wedding but views it as an accolade for the whole team she works with.

The government source noted that the wedding venue was significantly smaller than Westminster Abbey, where Harry's older brother William Wednesday Kate Middleton in 2011 in the presence of then Prime Minister David Cameron and other politicians and diplomats.

She added: "I think it's quite awesome that Prince Harry and Meghan have invited a large number of the public to their wedding".

Also Tuesday, Kensington Palace officials named some of the 1,200 members of the public who have been told they will be among the 2,640 people invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle for the big event. The actual British royal wedding will happen on May 19.

Markle will be the first person of mixed race heritage and the second American to marry into the British royal family which has attracted a lot of worldwide attention and debate.
