Rosenstein Relents, Lets Nunes See FBI Document That Launched Trump-Russia Probe

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes of California said that he and Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC "finally" received the document that reveals the justification for the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe - one day after he said he had a plan "to impeach" senior Justice Department officials.

"We're not messing around here", Nunes continued.

The FBI opened its investigation on July 31, 2016, reportedly based on information passed to the bureau by the Australian government about George Papadopoulos, a Trump campaign adviser. In a statement on Wednesday, Nunes said he and Chairman Trey Gowdy were given access to a version of the memo that contained the information necessary to move the committee's investigation of the Department of Justice and FBI forward.

Nunes appeared on FOX News on Tuesday night and said that they planned to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in contempt of Congress and impeach them.

The story sought to minimize the role the Trump dossier - which was funded by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee - in starting the investigation.

Nunes and other Republicans have argued the unverified dossier was the spark that eventually led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, whose investigation has resulted in the indictment of several of Trump's close aides and former officials.

"We're at a boiling point where we need this two-page document", Nunes told Ingraham.

Congressman Nunes is not alone in making this argument on Tuesday.

In an interview on Tuesday, Nunes threatened to potentially impeach Rosenstein and Wray if they refused to turn over the EC.

Early this year Nunes ignited controversy when, against the wishes of the FBI, Republicans released an intelligence memo they said showed the FBI improperly spied on former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor Carter Page. The two-page document contains some redactions to protect the name of a foreign country and a foreign agent, Fox News reported on Wednesday.
