Toronto FC reaches CONCACAF Champions League final for 1st time

Pride on the line for Liga MX teams in CONCACAF Champions League second legs

Toronto FC and Club America drew 1-1 at the Estadio Azteca on Tuesday sending Toronto FC to the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League final thanks to a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Guadalajara - 1962 champions - won the opening leg 1-0 on home soil and they managed to grind out a scoreless stalemate - keeping the Red Bulls scoreless for 180 minutes.

And the home side was almost on the scoresheet inside of 10 minutes when a Bradley Wright-Phillips shot from close range was blocked and Tim Parker pushed his shot wide of the far post from the rebound.

Toronto FC has advanced to its first ever CONCACAF Champions League final.

In the first leg, Toronto took advantage of a loud home crowd to score goals from Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore and Ashtone Morgan, winning 3-1.

However, Toronto were not overawed as Osorio opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Sebastian Giovinco delivered and substitute Tosaint Ricketts played in the former.

Bono charged forward to put his body on a cross in the 77th minute, getting to the ball before a hard-charging Club America forward.

As the game wore on Toronto captain Michael Bradley moved further and further back, helping to shore up TFC's defense.

He made a reaction save to stop a diving header in the 28th minute and twice denied Bruno Valdez, keeping out a long-range effort in the 20th minute and pushing his 33rd-minute header over the bar. His shot was blocked by Toronto F.C.'s wall.

Andres Uribe tied it for Club America in the second minute of injury time on a penalty kick.
