Weather Alert Day: Strong storms expected Friday evening

Our next storm system will increase the threat for severe weather across the Baton Rouge metro, Friday night into Saturday.

Temperatures today expected to climb into the upper 70s and low 80s across the Tennessee Valley with nothing but sunshine and the dry weather looks to carry-on into your Friday.

Then a big change will move in overnight and will continue into Thursday and Friday morning. Rain chances will stay low most of the day but with the increasing moisture so scattered showers can't be ruled and later in the afternoon and evening a few isolated storms will also be possible. This broken area of storms will edge east into the Ozarks Friday evening with a continued threat of severe weather.

Saturday will be an active weather day with heavy rain likely both during the morning and afternoon.

Gusty southerly winds, up to 30-35 miles per hour, with a few afternoon storms, will be possible Friday.

Sunshine will mix with a few high clouds Thursday with another cool start giving way to a warm afternoon. The latest on the timeline and storm threats in the updated Long Ranger.

The severe weather risk will hinge on timing - if the system speeds up, there could be some severe weather problems Saturday afternoon or evening, mainly in west Alabama. Expect Monday highs to be in the 60s, Tuesday highs to be in the 70s, and Wednesday highs to be approaching 80 degrees. Sunday we'll have on/ off light snow with wind and accumulations possible from Omaha northward.
