Woman offers to trade car for candy wafers

America’s least-favorite candy is suddenly its most sought after

According to the Boston Globe, the New England Confectionery Company, which manufactures Necco Wafers, Sweethearts, Mary Janes, and Clark Bars, is desperately looking for a buyer and has informed its' 500 employees that they might be laid off as early as May if the company isn't sold.

One Florida woman even went as far as to offer CandyStore.com, an online bulk store based in Los Angeles, her vehicle in return for as many packages of Necco Wafers as possible.

David Sklena, owner of Doc's Sweets' Candy Company in Clawson, said he and his customers were shocked and upset when they heard the news of Necco's closing.

Amidst the news of the potential closing, people began to panic - well, panic-buy, at least.

Samuels said the candy is nostalgic to her because she used to pretend play "church" at her grandmother's house and would take Communion with the sweets.

"I offered to trade my 2003 Honda Accord for all of their stock", a woman told The Globe. "I knew it was kind of a silly thing to say, but I'm serious".

Samuels attempted to strike an unusual deal with Candystore.com. "Necco Wafers are up 63 percent", wholesaler Candystore.com wrote in a post, calling it "The Great Necco Wafer Panic". "I don't have much right now, so I was like, 'I've got this vehicle, and I want all that candy, so maybe they would consider it'".

"Maybe I'll try to get more", she said. "They thought I was insane, but they were amusing for even entertaining me".
