PUBG update adjusts blue zone and maps to encourage better strategy

'PUBG' Test Server Update 10 Cuts Clothing Spawns, Tweaks Blue Zone

Key ingredients in making PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds an intense game are the ever-shrinking play area and a so-called blue zone, but now it's time to adjust the latter as part of a new patch for the PC version of the game.

PUBG Corp is specifically asking for feedback on many of these changes, including the earlier reveal of the safe zones, which they indicated may not make it to the next update if players hate it. This tweak will make players think of a strategy, tactically moving between the blue zone and the safe zone rather than hiding in the grass.

As you can see, the time between blue zone phases has been decreased significantly, but the speed at which the blue zone shrinks has been decreased as well.

This will allow players to wander around less and gather closely with heavily equipped players at the start of the game while finding loot but this has a catch, time is slowed later in the game towards the end with more damage increase. Finally, clothing items are no longer available as loot, so you have to get them the old-fashioned way - via in-game purchases or by slaying another player. Also, PUBG Corp has reduced the chance of outlier safe zones that are over water or in far, far corners of the map.

The devs have also made some changes to the Miramar map's northern section to "make it a more appealing area". This changes the way you're going to want to approach the initial portion of each match, including where you choose to drop.
