Unnao Rape: FIR Filed Against BJP MLA; Case Transferred to CBI

Unnao legislator Sengar is now being interrogated at the CBI office, but has not been arrested yet.

Earlier on Tuesday, the brother of Sengar was arrested by the police.

The victim had attempted suicide outside the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath triggering a massive political row over women's safety in Uttar Pradesh.

Upto six police personnel were suspended for allegedly beating up the victim's father, who died on April 9.

The incident has triggered outrage all over the country Arrest him immediately: Victim On Thursday, the 17-year-old victim demanded the immediate arrest of the MLA, saying that the CBI probe could be conducted later.

The FIR has been registered under Sections 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her into marriage), 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The CBI has asked the Uttar Pradesh's special investigation team to hand over documents related to the case.

The court, which is expected to pass an order tomorrow, took strong objection to the delay in the MLA's arrest, as it sought details of the action taken by the government in the matter.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) had on Thursday issued a notice to Surendra Singh over his weird statement on Unnao rape case.

"It was on the night of 4 June 2017 that one Shashi Singh took the daughter of the complainant to the house of MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar", states the FIR. BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Sengar charged with minor's rape. He said that the government has chose to provide adequate security to the victim and her family and other witnesses in the case.

"As the case has been recommended to the CBI, hence there was no reason to initiate action against the MLA".

Meanwhile, the wife of accused MLA, Sangeeta Sengar, who met Director General of Police, O.P. Singh in Lucknow, has dismissed the allegations.

The two top officials however were ata aloss of words when the media bombarded them with questions on what would happen if the CBI delays taking over the investigation or refuses it.
