FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for severe storm threat Saturday

Acadiana has a decent chance for seeing severe weather, while southeast Louisiana will be the bulls eye when it comes to the worst of this system.

The Live 5 First Alert Weather team is declaring Sunday a First Alert Weather Day because of the possibility of severe weather. The threat increases as you travel closer to the Oklahoma and Kansas borders.

Highs will return to near 80 on Saturday.

We will see plenty of sun on Sunday, but it will be windy and MUCH COOLER!

The Storm Prediction Center shows the Lowcountry facing a "slight" severe weather threat on Sunday.

Chances for rain and snow showers are possible on Saturday and freezing drizzle is possible on Sunday morning. If you take a peek at radar, things may not look all that bad early on Saturday.

Storms are expected to move into the Memphis area around 9 p.m. and then slowly move east into to West Tennessee and Northeast Mississippi. In fact, the Gulf moisture is already fueling storms to our north and west today.

Strong southerly winds will continue today ahead of a cold front arriving later tonight. Forecasters say the metro area could get 2 to 4 inches of rain, with higher amounts possible in isolated areas. Even once the severe weather threat diminishes, bands of rainfall may continue into the mid to late afternoon hours around the metro area.

Temperatures are forecast to be a high of 42 degrees and a low of 24 in Colorado Springs, and in the low to mid-30s and high teens in Monument and Woodland Park.

WHAT TO DO - Remain weather aware today.

Temperatures will significantly decrease as the cold front sweeps in. Timing - afternoon/ early evening.

Sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures kick off the new workweek with highs in the lower 50s on Monday to the middle 60s by Tuesday through Thursday. Some of the storms can become severe.
