Flares light up sky over Syria's capital

French President Emmanuel Macron appears on a television screen during a televised interview in Berd'huis south of Paris Thursday

"We have proof that last week chemical weapons were used, at least chlorine, and that they were used" by Assad's forces", he also said.

The Syrian government and Russian Federation have called reports of the attack bogus. "Today's response is the direct response to Russia's failure", said Trump.

"Again, we are being threatened".

The Russian leader warned against "ill-considered and risky actions ... that would have consequences beyond conjecture".

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday Trump "holds Syria and Russian Federation responsible for this chemical weapons attack", and said "all options are on the table".

President Donald Trump is asking for a "prayer for our noble warriors" as he concludes his remarks announcing strikes on targets associated with the Syrian chemical weapons program.

A huge fire could be seen from a distance to the east.

Syrian media reported that Syrian defenses hit 13 rockets south of Damascus. His tweets indicate that he has, indeed, made a decision to strike Syria.

Trump announced Wednesday that he meant to launch a missile strike against the Sryian regime of Bashar al-Assad, retaliation for the government's alleged use of chemical weapons on a civilian population in a suburb of Damascus last weekend.

Mr Trump said the military action was a "combined operation" with the armed forces of the United Kingdom and France.

The suspected chemical attack occurred on April 7 in the Damascus suburb of Douma, which had been held by rebel forces for years in Syria's continuing civil war.

Amid speculation that a US -led strike conducted with several allies on multiple Syrian targets could be imminent, Trump publicly warned Russian Federation that "missiles will be coming to Syria" before insisting on Twitter that he "never said when an attack on Syria would take place".

Ministers said there was need to "deter the further use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime", and alleviate the humanitarian situation, a Downing Street statement said. "They are crimes of a monster", he said.

"Never said when an attack on Syria would take place".

He said increased engagement from countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Egypt can ensure that Iran does not profit from the defeat of the Islamic State group.

US President Donald Trump is in talks with UK PM Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron about an appropriate worldwide response.

Also, French President Emmanuel Macron said he had ordered a military intervention in Syria alongside the United States and Britain in an attack on the chemical weapons arsenal of the country's regime.

"We can not tolerate the recurring use of chemical weapons, which is an immediate danger for the Syrian people and our collective security", a statement from the Elysee presidential office said.

"Donald Trump is an unpredictable and risky ally".

Russian Federation has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government and has helped turn the tide of war in his favour since entering the conflict in September 2015.

She said United States officials are "continuing to assess intelligence" and are "engaged in conversations with our partners and allies".

Medical sources say dozens of people were killed, including children, during the alleged toxic bombing of the formerly rebel-held town of Douma, in the Eastern Ghouta region.

As he spoke, Syria's air defence systems swung into action, according to state television reports.

"It has reduced the regime's ability to use chemical weapons in the future and sends a clear and strong message that the use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated by the global community", Ms Payne told reporters in Sydney.

"I have done so because I judge this action to be in Britain's national interest". "It's too bad that the world puts us in a position like that".

There have been no reported US, UK or French losses.

The Damascus sky lights up missile fire as the US launches an attack on Syria targeting different parts of the capital early Saturday, April 14, 2018.

President al-Assad denied responsibility for the horrifying scenes in Douma, near the capital of Damascus.

Macron said: "We can not tolerate the employment of chemical weapons". "Syria's responsible. We are all in agreement", she said.

The U.S. Navy was moving an additional Tomahawk missile-armed ship within striking range of Syria as President Donald Trump and his national security aides mulled the scope and timing of an expected military assault in retaliation for a suspected poison gas attack.
