IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils beat Mumbai Indians in last ball thriller

Delhi Daredevils player Jason Roy bats against Mumbai Indians during VIVO IPL cricket T20 match in Mumbai India Saturday

The Sunrisers Hyderabad handed the Mumbai Indians their second straight loss as they escaped with a thrilling one-wicket win off the final ball of the match. Roy led with a stunning knock, but despite losing only three wickets, Delhi Daredevils ended up needing 11 runs off the final over to be bowled by Mustafizur Rahman.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, who had demoted himself at No 4 today, could only score 18 runs off 15 balls with 2 boundaries only.

Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond feels his team could have played a bit smarter and posted a bigger score but in the end some errors in their decision making cost them the last-ball IPL thriller against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

MoM: J Roy for 91 runs from 53 balls (Not out). Thus, Mumbai will continue to remain rain free, however, humidity will be on the high and temperatures will range in the early 30s, resulting in some discomfort to the players.

The Englishman was particularly severe on Hardik Pandya smashing him for two sixes and a four off successive deliveries as the bowler went for 21 runs in his second over.

The win took them to the top of the standings as they have better run rate than Chennai Super Kings, who too have four points. Mumbai lost both games against CSK and SRH by 1 wicket in the last over.

MI: Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Mustafizur Rahman, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar, Evin Lewis, Saurabh Tiwary, Ben Cutting, Pradeep Sangwan, Jean-Paul Duminy, Tajinder Singh, Sharad Lumba, Siddhesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Mayank Markande, Akila Dhananjaya, Anukul Roy, Mohsin Khan, MD Nidheesh, Mitchell McClenaghan.

From Delhi camp, Trent Boult, Daniel Christian and Rahul Tewatia took two wickets each. Going by statistics, Mumbai does seem upper hand over Delhi as the latter has only been able to register one victory at the Wankhede. Yadav then welcomed Mohammed Shami with a six and followed it with two fours as he made a mockery of the listless Delhi attack. He is hitting the ball hard irrespective of who delivers the ball. Hardik Pandya is getting recovered and is expected to be in this match.

It also brought up the 100-run partnership for the first wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Two boundaries, one by Lewis and one by Yadav, good over for MI. The away side got their first breakthrough in the 9th over as Lewis (48 runs) miscued Tewatia delivery to Jason Roy at long off falling two runs short of a half-century. The India all-rounder is capable of hitting towering sixes and has the knack of picking up wickets at crucial stages of the match, besides being an athletic fieldsman.
