Leafs' Kadri suspended 3 games for hit on Bruins' Wingels

Maple Leafs Nazem Kadri's dangerous hit has no place in hockey

The NHL suspended Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri for three playoff games Friday after he boarded Boston Bruins forward Tommy Wingels in Boston's 5-1 Game 1 win Thursday evening.

Kadri was sent off with a game misconduct and match penalty with 11:42 remaining in the third period after slamming the head of Wingels into the boards while he was already down on the ice.

Bruins center Riley Nash is getting closer and closer in his recovery from an ear injury, but the 28-year-old skater is not expected to rejoin his teammates for Game 2 of the opening round Stanley Cup Playoffs Saturday vs. Toronto.

"Initially I thought he just made contact with [Mitch Marner's] head to start and I didn't see a call there", Kadri added. "But he ended up falling and reaching for the puck, and I'm not sure what happened after that". "Whatever the case is, but it's in the hands of the National Hockey League at this point".

The suspension video did acknowledge that Wingels delivered a hit on Marner that initially drew Kadri's attention, but there is no justification for delivering a dirty, risky hit with the intent to injure one of your opponents.

"It's out of my control at this point". Obviously, if he's still standing up there's nothing wrong with that.
