Russian Federation 'trained spy units to use CHEMICAL weapons on United Kingdom streets'

The lethal poison that struck down a former Russian spy and his daughter in England last month was a highly pure type of Novichok nerve agent, the global chemical weapons watchdog has concluded, backing Britain's findings.

Mr. Sedwill's letter also says that Britain has evidence that Russian security services have been monitoring the Skripal family.

In an account based in part on declassified United Kingdom intelligence, Sir Mark also said the Russians had developed a programme in the 2000s to train personnel from "special units" in the use of chemical warfare agents. The strongest concentration of the Novichok nerve agent found in the Salisbury incident was on the front door of Mr Skripal's home.

"Mr. Skripal and his daughter were poisoned with a military-grade nerve agent of a type developed by Russian Federation", specifically from the Novichok group, British Prime Minister Theresa May said after the incident, based on an assessment by British experts.

The report from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons did not include a statement about where the poison was manufactured.

"I thank my cousin Viktoria for her concern for us, but ask that she does not visit me or try to contact me for the time being", the statement quoted her as saying.

She had been in the hospital since March 4 after being found unconscious beside her father on a bench outside the Maltings shopping center in Salisbury.

"Her opinions and assertions are not mine and they are not my father's".

"The codeword for the offensive chemical weapons programme (of which Novichoks were one part) was FOLIANT", he said.

My letter to the NATO Secretary General @jensstoltenberg with more information on Russian responsibility for Salisbury attack following @OPCW report confirming the nerve agent.

Russian Federation has said it does not have such nerve agents and President Vladimir Putin said it was nonsense to think that Moscow would have poisoned the Skripals.

He argues that "Russia has a proven record of conducting state-sponsored assassination", referencing the murder of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko in 2006.

Scotland Yard published a new statement of the daughter of former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal.

"This transparent and open approach, which we have pursued from the outset, is in sharp contrast to the Russian state's ongoing tactics of obfuscation and distraction", the spokesman said.

"We can not be sure that Yulia's refusal to see us is genuine".

"We are not allowed to see our citizens, talk to doctors, have no idea about the treatment the Russian nationals receive", he said.

Asked if the probe was getting closer to identifying a suspect, she said: "All I can say is we are putting huge effort in, we will continue to do that".

The poisoning of Mr Skripal, who settled in Britain in 2010 after being released by Moscow in a spy swap, shows "how reckless Russian Federation is prepared to be", the head of Britain's GCHQ spy agency said.
