Sea of Thieves First Content Update Dated For May

Rare says that the first content update for Sea of Thieves will be called The Hungering Deep, bringing a risky new AI threat to the seas that will force crews to work together.

During summer, two more content updates will be released. But now Microsoft and the Rare studio want you to look to the game's development horizon and the promise of new quests, rewards, and mechanics that are awaiting you in future updates.

Sea of Thieves developer, Rare, has laid out the content roadmap for their game and what to expect in terms of updates going forward.

Rare plans to launch regular content and weekly events that will add major features, including items, mechanics and expanded goals.

When it releases in early May, The Hungering Deep will feature a new enemy which crews will need to discover and defeat as part of a unique event.

Sea of Thieves Executive Producer Joe Neate and Design Director Mike Chapman have taken to the airwaves in the latest Inn-side Story. Similar to The Hungering Deep, both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge and new unique rewards to claim.

Three more major content updates will arrive in the fall and winter for Sea of Thieves. Neate also alluded to the introduction of new ways for crews to communicate with one another. Rare says that what they're trying to do with this new AI threat is to make players interact with the game differently, trying to bring crews together.

The third content drop, Forsaken Shores, will come later in the summer and introduce a new area for players to explore.

Pets and Ship Captaincy are things Rare is reprioritizing due to community feedback, sadly moving them to the back burner as other things are added to the game.

Everything introduced as part of the timed event will remain as part of Sea of Thieves once the timed event ends.

Rare has said this before, but it also reiterated that it is offering this content for free because it does not want to separate its players into haves and havenots.
