UK's Theresa May says Syria chemical weapons can't go unchallenged

One of the officials noted that Syria and Russian Federation relocated their equipment and personnel a year ago - the first and only other time Trump ordered missile strikes on Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack.

Speaking before a meeting with farm state lawmakers on Thursday morning, Trump said he and his team were closely monitoring events on the ground. He also questioned why his administration hadn't received more gratitude for dealing with the Islamic State militant group (ISIS).

Earlier, Trump had appeared more cautious when backtracking on his explosive rhetoric on Syria to announce he "never said when" a strike on the country would take place. "Could be very soon or not so soon at all!" the president wrote on Twitter. "Where is our 'Thank you America?'"

It came nearly exactly a year after a chemical attack in the northern Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun killed dozens of people.

Tensions increased further yesterday after US President Donald Trump warned Russian Federation to "get ready" for a missile strike in the war-torn country. Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart!"

Ministers had agreed it was "highly likely" Assad was responsible for the attack on Saturday on the rebel-held town of Douma - which reportedly left dozens dead, including children.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on April 12 said he personally believed an "inexcusable" use of chemical weapons had taken place in Syria.

Trump on Wednesday warned Russian Federation that rockets "will be coming".

Britain will work with its "closest allies", the USA and France, to ensure Assad is held to account as "all indications" suggest he ordered the attack, she said.

The British Prime Minister Theresa May has called emergency meeting of her cabinet amid reports she is ready to give the green light for the United Kingdom to join any military action.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has reiterated on Thursday the Syrian government's willingness to cooperate with an investigation team into the chemical attack allegations, according to the state news agency. "Now we have to make some ... decisions, so they'll be made fairly soon".

With increasing concerns about a US-Russia proxy war in Syria, Macron insisted that "France will not allow an escalation or something that could damage the stability" of the region.

"The last time that the USA struck Syria for the use of chemical weapons, US intelligence had not come up with a smoking gun".

May has not confirmed whether Britain will participate directly, but said "the continued use of chemical weapons can not go unchallenged".

"They know we are there, I wish there was dialect [sic] though the proper channels on this to avert any risky developments", Nebenzia added.

French President Emmanuel Macron also said Thursday that he would respond to "proof" that the Assad regime had used chemical weapons, "at a time of our choosing".
