Facebook adds AR drawings and Instagram's Boomerang to stories

Facebook announces major change in ranking the public content based on surveys

As per a report by TechCrunch, the company will soon roll out new elements to its Facebook Stories feature, including the ability to draw AR doodles on real-world images and videos, as well as the integration of the popular Boomerang feature from Instagram. The stories archived by the users and messages exchange will they be allowed to be downloaded or not, is yet to be disclosed. It's rolling out to users over the coming weeks. Starting with the new 3D drawings and Instagram's Boomerang, the social media platform hopes to compete with Snapchat.

The AR technology should also be able to detect objects from surfaces. The doodles will then stick to the objects captured in the frame, and users can move around to see their artwork from different angles - a bit like virtual graffiti.

For optimal effect, it only wraps drawings around objects if it is confident about the object that it has detected. Facebook is on a mission to make Stories more exciting and therefore the new addition is seen as an effort to overcome criticism that Stories are "a rip-off of Snapchat and redundant Instagram Stories". Facebook had its own version previously, which had the same effect as Boomerang, except it had some bugs.

The social media giant plans to boost AR with a new drawing option among others on Facebook Camera.

Instagram makes it easy for users to cross-post to Facebook when they publish a Story.

However, that does not stop Facebook from trying at all.

"The way people share and connect is changing; it's quickly becoming more real-time and visual".

The Facebook data breach case has already created several doubts at the user end and this has made them find a platform where they could take their data, which is away from Facebook.
