Nina Simone, Bon Jovi to be inducted into Roll Hall of Fame

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2018: They wore that? Fashions and photos from the red carpet

"It's getting pretty surreal, I got to admit", the Cars' Greg Hawkes told Billboard Friday night (April 13) at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's VIP Party at the museum in Cleveland.

They were inducted by Howard Stern, who provided many laughs at the event. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Van Zandt "Little Steven" made the remarks for this new category, which honors the excellence of singles that shapes rock and roll by artists who have not yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Cars, founded in Boston in 1976 and known for combining New Wave and classic rock sounds, were inducted this year after being nominated twice before.

As has been the standard in recent years, HBO acquired the rights to be the sole network to air the Rock Hall induction. Do you have a prayer when it comes to Bon Jovi trivia? "I am considering doing one of the new songs and that is something that's just not done". And then at one point he said "sorry gotta go".

The 33rd annual Rock Hall ceremony kicked off with a tribute to Tom Petty, who died in October at age 66.

WKYC will bring you full coverage from Saturday's festivities in Cleveland, starting with the red carpet walk at Public Hall.

And fans are revved up as the event will honour Bon Jovi, The Cars, The Moody Blues, Dire Straits, Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

The Rock Hall induction was expected to include all the original members of the band, including guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alec John Such, keyboardist (and Tony Award victor David Bryan), and drummer Tico Torres.

A flawless Brittany Howard, of the critically acclaimed rock act Alabama Shakes, gave an extraordinary Tharpe impression onstage, winning over the audience with her rousing live performance in honor of the godmother of rock "n" roll.

Bassist John Illsley acknowledged the awkwardness of Knopfler not being present and then took a subtle swipe at his bandmate and close friend by saying, "it's more than one person, a collective".
