Batshuayi sees season ended by injury, but World Cup dream remains

Michy Batshuayi was on the end of a heavy challenge from Schalke's Benjamin Stambouli

The Belgium worldwide, on-loan at Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea, suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to Schalke.

However, his domestic season has been cut short with a suspected broken ankle that he suffered in the Ruhr derby against Schalke, where his loan side lost 2-0.

Michy Batshuayi was on the receiving end of a tackle that is nearly certain to rule him out of the World Cup in today's Revierderby between Schalke and Borussia Dortmund.

The striker has hit seven Bundesliga goals since signing on loan from Chelsea, helping to keep Dortmund's hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

"Batshuayi got an ankle injury in the derby at Schalke and will probably be out of action for the remainder of the season", Dortmund said in a statement.

"Participation with the Belgian national team at the World Cup in Russian Federation remains in the realms of possibility". A commitment for the Belgium national team at the World Cup in Russian Federation is still in the range of possibility.

'Thank you all the wonderful amount of love I received since yesterday.

Having seen game time limited at Chelsea, a January switch to Dortmund had delivered nine goals in just 15 appearances.

The 24-year-old has now revealed he is unlikely to play again this season and there is concern he could miss the World Cup as Roberto Martinez's Red Devils begin their campaign in two months' time. Wishing my teammates the best for the final days.
