HBO's John Oliver Says GOP 'Absolutely Blew It' on Corporate Tax Reform

John Oliver revealed he had bought the jockstrap on his TV show Last Week Tonight

The host also announced big plans to donate the goods to one of the last remaining Blockbuster video stores in the USA, specifically in Alaska, to help boost their business.

As has been previously reported, Alaska is home to over 50% of the country's final Blockbuster stores.

Among the items: A leather jockstrap from the 2005 movie "Cinderella Man" that Oliver purportedly paid more than $7,000 for.

"I mean, I'm not sure I want a Russell Crowe jockstrap".

Blockbuster was once synonymous with movie nights with thousands of video rental stores across the country, but today has just a handful of locations still operating. The internet speculated that the bidder was none other than Oliver himself, fueled by his earlier reference on the show lampooning the odd nature of the auction, and that item itself.

"I meant to do it, everyone should do it, and I'm gonna do it again forever.' I have got to say, if Trump's intention was to descend so far into self-parody that he somehow burrowed into the Earth's crust and came out on the other side, mission fucking accomplished". The jockstrap used in the boxing film was reportedly worth a range from $500 to $600, according to broker Sotheby's who would be holding Crowe's auction.

Watch the full 16-minutes segment below, but the main takeaway is pretty simple: "We just had a huge chance to reform our tax code and we absolutely blew it", Oliver said.

"To the manager of the only remaining Blockbuster in Alaska, all of this shit is yours", Oliver said after giving viewers a guided tour of the Crowe items.
