Indiana Farm Recalls More Than 200 Million Eggs over Salmonella Concerns

A full list of affected eggs is listed on the FDA's food recall website.

It can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain among healthy people, but can lead to fatal infections among children younger than 5, adults older than 65 and those with weak immune systems.

More than 200 million eggs were recalled by an IN farm operation after a report of 22 illnesses IN connection with a salmonella outbreak.

Rose Acre Farms responded to the discovery by voluntarily going through with the recall, and halting production of eggs.

The eggs reached consumers in Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, South Carolina, and West Virginia.

More than 200 million eggs are being recalled due to concerns about Salmonella.

More than 500 eggs from two Iowa farms owned and controlled by Austin J. DeCoster were recalled that year.

At least 22 illnesses have been reported so far, the FDA said Friday.

The agency advised the public to throw away the eggs or return them to the place of purchase for credit or refund. Affected packages are stamped with the plant number P-1065 and Lot Codes 011 - 102.

Salmonella infection is a common bacterial disease affecting the intestinal tract; the bacteria live in animal and human intestines, shed through feces.

The illnesses were reported in states on the U.S. East Coast, leading the FDA to conduct extensive interviews. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said the agencys testing connected the recalled eggs to the people who got sick.

Multiple brand names sell the potentially contaminated eggs, including, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Nelms, Crystal Farms, Coburn Farms, Sunshine Farms, Glenview and Great Value.

Raw eggs can contain salmonella so handle them carefully. The eggs can be found at Walmart and Food Lion stores.

The recall was voluntary on Rose Acre Farms' part. The more severe illnesses may include arterial infections, infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis.
