Kentucky governor apologizes after comments on teacher protests

"For those of you who have been hurt, it is my absolute, honest apology to you", Bevin said.

'I guarantee you somewhere today, a child was physically harmed or ingested poison because they were left alone because a single parent didn't have any money to take care of them'. "What Governor Bevin said about teachers following their peaceful rally yesterday was reprehensible, and we are proud to join with the many others who have condemned his petty, spiteful remarks".

Bevin apologized several times in Sunday's video and said many people misunderstood and "did not fully appreciate" his earlier statement. The budget included increased spending for public education with the help of an accompanying tax increase.

As one of its final acts of this year's legislative session, the Republican-led Kentucky House of Representatives passed a resolution formally condemning Gov. Matt Bevin for saying that teachers neglected students by attending protests in Frankfort on Friday, leading to child abuse.

However, he now takes back the tasteless comparison in a Facebook post: "It is my responsibility to represent you, not only when I'm speaking to you but also when I'm speaking on your behalf".

Although the teachers succeeded in protecting pensions for current workers and pressuring legislators into overriding Bevin's veto, Kentucky teachers could still face problems in the future.

'And so the extent that I do that well, great.

At a video statement on Sunday, Bevin stated: & "I'm sorry each of youpersonally, that has been hurt by things I't explained". And to the times when I don't do it well, that's on me.

Last Friday, teachers participated in a rally at the Kentucky state capitol to call for increased education funding, causing 30 Kentucky schools to be closed that day.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said via Twitter, "Actual translation: Meant what I said".

Cooper voted for Bevin in 2015 and vowed Saturday not to do it again. It was still him defending his words.

Home Minority Flooring Chief Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, stated in a press release that whereas Bevin claims there was a misunderstanding, "the folks of Kentucky heard loud and clear what he stated and in the present day's video exhibits he nonetheless doesn't comprehend why so many had been understandably upset". Everyone heard his words. "In order that simply form of makes me offended".
