'Mass casualty incident' reported at SC maximum security prison

Logan said Lee Correctional Institution, like most other SC prisons, is struggling to find enough workers, but he doesn't believe anything could be done once things got that far out of control.

Officials say a lot of them were stabbed or slashed; No officers were wounded, and the names of the dead haven't been released. Physicians were not able to stop the combating defend the jail until approximately 2:55 % on Monday.

The maximum-security facility houses about 1,500 inmates, some of South Carolina's most violent and longest-serving offenders.

Last month, inmates reportedly overpowered an officer for more than an hour and took control of one side of a housing unit.
