NFL Veteran James Harrison Announces He's Retiring

James Harrison calls it quits again

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has announced he will retire from the NFL. The Steelers cut him two days before Christmas and he signed with the New England Patriots to finish the season, helping them advance to the Super Bowl.

Harrison says he's ready to spend more time with his friends and family.

He played 14 of his 15 National Football League seasons with the Steelers, twice earning first-team All-Pro honours and being named to the Pro Bowl five times in consecutive seasons from 2007-11.

So, farewell James. If things ended differently, the Steelers would've enshrined you into history with highlights of your 100-yard Super Bowl interception, or some of the jaw-dropping hits you've put on players throughout the years.

Harrison when undrafted when he came into the league back in 2002.

Harrison posted a collage of pictures of his two sons and noted he's "missed way too much for way too long. and I'm done".

And what did Harrison do with his newly found free time?

His previous retirement attempt lasted only one month in 2014. He returned to Pittsburgh after injuries decimated the team's linebacker group and in his second act became a valuable leader on the field and elsewhere, often including teammates in his draining (and well-documented) offseason workout regiments in Arizona. However, he had a change of heart and continued to play on for a few more seasons. The Ravens sent him to NFL Europe before eventually releasing him.

Harrison quickly signed with the New England Patriots.
