Nintendo Switch Getting Classic Sega Games This Summer

Nintendo teams up with VC fund to work on new tech for Switch

During a press conference this week, Sega announced its plans to bring some of its classic titles to Nintendo's newest gaming console. That's the same company responsible for a large number of Sega's previous re-releases, and they've proven to be reliable in terms of ensuring that the ported version of each title retains the spirit of the originals while featuring modest modern updates.

The Pokemon Company has not officially announced anything that would be deemed concrete information for its upcoming Pokemon Nintendo Switch game. As would be expected, the original Sonic the Hedgehog title will be one of the first classic Sega games landing on the Nintendo Switch.

The first batch of SEGA Ages releases Summer 2018.

Last week at SEGA Fes, the publisher announced the revival of SEGA Ages, a series of re-releases for classic SEGA games poised to hit Nintendo Switch. We've seen developers take advantage of the Switch's popularity by raising the cost of some popular games that get ported to the console, but we imagine that these games will be available for a comparable price.

Sega Ages series producer Kagasei Shimomura is quoted as saying that he wants to expand the official lineup past the now confirmed retro games being worked on. Now we just need to wait for E3 to roll around so Sega can provide us with a release schedule, as well as when Saturn, Dreamcast and arcade games will start rolling in.

The company did not say when we can expect the Sega Mega Drive Mini to be released, except that it will be some time this year. It also revealed two additional titles for this initial line up: Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Gain Ground.
