Bodies of Missing Indian Family Members Recovered from California River

The family was traveling from Portland to their home in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita.

The body of his wife, 38-year-old Soumya, was recovered the day before.

The smell of gasoline about a half-mile (1 kilometer) downstream from where the crash was reported, led the investigators to the auto.

Family members have set up a VyStar Credit Union donation account, all of which will be used to care for the children. Relatives of the Thottapilly family positively identified the items as belongings of their family members, authorities said.

The vehicle was encased in sediment and visibility was poor but divers believed there was at least one body inside, officials said.

Searchers located the vehicle Sunday in the Eel River and recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, the Mendocino County sheriff's office said in a statement.

The family had gone missing while travelling to meet with family members in San Jose, California. The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said the initial discovery was made on Sunday, as searchers were scouring the Eel River in Legget, California. The family will have a time of visitation from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. before the service.Ricky was born in Florence County, the son of the late Junius and Cornelia O'Neal Welch.

The Klamath River and a string of state and federal redwood parks lie along U.S. 101, north of where motorists saw the vehicle fall into the Eel River.

Searchers on Monday found the body of Siddhant Thottapilly, the last to be found after the family of four went missing.

Evidence unearthed since the incident have California officials believing that the crash was intentional. The crash happened just days after authorities in Washington state opened an investigation following allegations the children were being neglected.

Allman said both Jennifer and Sarah were wearing seat belts while the three children found near the vehicle were not. On Friday, the body of a woman was recovered about 7 miles north of the reported crash site.
