Cosby judge allows testimony on quaaludes

Top News: Accuser Andrea Constand denies framing TV star

The mother of Bill Cosby's chief accuser tells jurors the comedian admitted to her that he was a "sick man".

Ms Andrea Constand said she had called him as she drove to his home in January 2004 when she claimed he sexually assaulted her.

She testified that Cosby offered her pills and a sip of wine after she said she was "stressed" about telling the coach of her plans to leave to study massage therapy in her native Canada.

Andrea Constand testified that in 2004, Cosby drugged her and then raped her.

Like last time, though, the defence team hit a brick wall when it asked Constand about a key figure in the case, Marguerite Jackson, who says Constand spoke about fabricating sexual-assault allegations against a celebrity to file suit.

Constand was more confident and composed as she told jurors about the night in question.

As she did during the first Cosby trial last year, Gianna Constand told prosecutors how in early 2005, about a year after the alleged sexual assault, she called Cosby seeking answers, speaking to him for almost two and a half hours.

Andrea and Gianna Constand's testimony followed that of five additional accusers who told jurors that Cosby had drugged and assaulted them two decades earlier. She says he described their sexual encounter and apologized for his behavior.

Her mother Gianna Constand also took the rack on Monday, after she told her court her daughter was & rdquo; if she came back by the United States in the aftermath of her attack & ldquo; perhaps not the exact same. He says it was consensual.

Andrea Constand testified Cosby knocked her out with pills and sexually assaulted her at his home in 2004.

Bill Cosby paid almost $3.4m (£2.4m) in a settlement after the civil case closed in 2006.

"I wanted to know what medication he had given Andrea, and what he had done to her", Gianna Constand testified.

"I don't know what that means", Constand replied.

Constand was the director of women's basketball operations at Temple University in Philadelphia when she met Cosby, a powerful alumnus and member of the board of trustees.

Gianna Constand had some testy exchanges with Cosby attorney Kathleen Bliss during cross-examination.

Andrea Constand said under cross-examination Monday that her phone calls to Cosby were about basketball.

Constand testified that she could not move as Cosby assaulted her on the couch.

The Associated Press doesn't typically identify people who say they're victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.

Prosecutors are building to the conclusion of their case against comedian Bill Cosby in his sexual assault retrial.

Prosecutors objected, and Judge O'Neill sustained the objection. He says he's thankful to the doctors who diagnosed the tear and performed the laser procedure on his left eye without disrupting the trial schedule. At the time, O'Neill ruled Jackson's testimony would be hearsay. He said waiting too long could've caused him to lose sight in the eye.

The judge has tentatively ruled that Jackson can take the stand at the retrial, but that could change because Constand, for a second time, has denied knowing her. She has testified that she saw the former TV star as a mentor and had no romantic interest in him.

Constand took the stand Friday morning when Cosby's lead defense attorney Tom Mesereau set the foundation for his team's attack on Constand's credibility - the strategy the defense has employed since before the trial started.

Cosby's defense used its cross-examination to try to hint that her daughter was having money problems at Temple and using Cosby for his connections, rather than contest the story Gianna Constand told the prosecution of how Cosby confessed to her in a phone call he was a "dirty man" who improperly touched her daughter.

First trial: The defence didn't ask Constand about emails she had sent that promised big returns for a risk-free $65 investment - what the defence at the second trial has called a "Ponzi scheme". The testimony was also included at his first trial that ended with a hung jury past year.

The defence pointed to the phone records as evidence that she had kept in touch with Cosby in the following weeks at a level at odds with her account of having been assaulted.
