Lahore High Court bans airing of anti-judiciary speeches by Nawaz Sharif

LHC bars Pemra from airing anti-judiciary content

"Meanwhile in a statement, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz said 25 years had passed since Nawaz Sharif delivered a historic speech in which his words "I will never take the dictation" changed the political history as well as social behaviors".

Naqvi said that while Article 19 of the Constitution allowed fair criticism of the judiciary, not every person should be allowed to criticise the courts just for the sake of exercising the right, The Express Tribune reported. "One can't, for instance, make anti-judiciary comments", he added.

In a reference to Lahore High Court's orders to PEMRA against airing his speeches, he said "We will win no matter how much restrictions are placed".

Multiple petitions have been filed in different courts against them over alleged contempt of court.

It is the fourth full bench which decided the case as earlier three benches got dissolved due to different reasons.

Maryam's counsel in the case resumed cross-examination of prosecution witness Wajid Zia, the head of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that probed the Sharif family's offshore assets. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and federal and provincial ministers of the PML-N have also been made respondents in the petitions. "In case of a live transmission, no one can predict what a speaker is going to say".

Sharif called for an end to muzzling media and individuals. The court also summoned the attorney-general (AG) of Pakistan as well as advocate-generals of all four provinces and registrar Lahore High Court.

"So the court's decision is correct, but it will still be hard to implement".

It was discussed how much the decision will impact the PML-N movement with the motto "vote ko izzat do" in near future.
