TV presenter Ant McPartlin learns fate

TV presenter Ant McPartlin learns fate

When a TV reporter went to cover a celebrity's auto crash court case, she didn't expect to be covering a totally different one.

The judge told the court that Ant had showed "genuine remorse" after the incident.

Ant was found to be twice the legal limit when he crashed his auto into two other vehicles in South London on March 21.

Popular British television host Ant McPartlin pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of drunk driving in connection with a three-car crash in London last month that left several people injured.

In a statement read in court by Ms Sinnett-Jones, the driver said: "Myself and my family were in deep shock as we believed we could have died as as a result of Mr McPartlin's reckless driving".

The presenter was fined £86,000 ($123,200) and banned from driving for 20 months, the BBC reported.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

Ant's driving ban could be reduced to 15 months, provided he completes a referral programme by the middle of May next year.

"High standards are expected of me, I expect them of myself".

Speaking briefly outside court after the sentencing, the TV presenter said: "I just want to say I'm truly sorry for what happened". For that I'm truly sorry'.

"I accept full culpability for this and wish to apologise to all those concerned".

At this point, Freeman was interrupted by the crash but - clearly a professional - she carried on, adding: "Excuse me, sorry, it's just some cars have had a bit of a crash behind us there".

The Newcastle native stood down from all of his TV commitments to return to rehab last month, having sought treatment previous year for an addiction to prescription pain killers.

McPartlin and Donnelly are among the best-known presenters on British TV, fronting primetime entertainment formats for ITV such as "Saturday Night Takeaway", "Britain's Got Talent" and "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!"

But ITV has confirmed Donnelly will be hosting the live shows without his TV partner of nearly 30 years.
