Unnao rape: CBI makes second arrest; Sengar sent to seven-day custody

CBI already arrested BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Unnao rape case

Meanwhile, the probe agency was faced with a tricky situation during the course of investigation into the case involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar who is already in CBI custody remand for seven days. If the court is convinced with the report, then it might allow scrapping of the sections of POCSO Act charges against the accused MLA. CBI sources told TOI that "they will investigate the first case, registered on June 20, 2017 by UP police, when the survivor first levelled the rape charges".

Earlier a report had claimed that the victim was around 19 years when she was raped last year.

According to sources, Sengar has been changing his statements repeatedly during interrogation by CBI.

The CBI said that Suman had demanded Rs. 50 lakh from a businessman to show undue favour to him by passing favourable order in an appeal against the businessman. The team was likely to recreate the crime scene and also bring the victim and Sengar face-to-face.

"Some goons of Kuldeep Sengar are threatening villagers to keep quiet".

Rape-accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been arrested.

On January 23, the government had handed over the case to the crime branch of the state police which formed a Special Investigation Team and arrested eight people including two special police officers and a head constable, who was charged with destruction of evidence. It came after the Allahabad High Court rapped the police for its inaction against the BJP lawmaker who was influencing the "law-and-order machinery".

In her complaint to Uttar Pradesh Police, now part of the CBI FIR, the survivor's mother alleged that Singh lured her daughter and took her to Sengar's residence where he raped her.

The father expressed satisfaction with the probe conducted so far by the state police, while vehemently opposing the plea of senior advocate Bhim Singh and Delhi-based lawyer Anuja Kapur that the investigation be transferred to the CBI.

The Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI arrested another person in connection with the Unnao gang-rape case.
