Vampire Diaries Actor to Star in Netflix's Vampire Series V-Wars

At least this time Somerhalder is not playing a vampire. V-Wars: Chronicles of the Vampire Wars has four installments, and is distributed by IDW Publishing, who is also producing the series alongside High Park Entertainment.

Somerhalder will play Dr. Luther Swann, whose best friend, Michael Fayne, is transformed him into a unsafe vampire.

This will be Somerhalder's first time getting back to his garlic-averse roots since last year's The Vampire Diaries series finale. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these vampires. The "V-Wars" collection is now being turned into a TV series set to air on Netflix. William Laurin and Glenn Davis, creators of the Canadian crime drama 1-800-Missing, will serve as showrunners for the series. The stakes are raised when Fayne rises to power as the underground leader of the vampires. High Park's Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce along with IDW Entertainment president David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams, James Gibb of Marada Pictures.

Netflix is continuing to bring fascinating, original programming to the streaming service, and we're so excited to see them dip a bit more into the world of the supernatural. He now has a pod deal with TVD producers Warner Bros.

The series was originally announced in 2014 as a straight-to-series deal with Entertainment One. eOne and producers Circle of Confusion are no longer involved.

According to an April 16 report by TVLine, Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel series. More recently, he played a regular role on The CW's horror drama The Vampire Series. He is repped by ICM Partners, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn.
