WaPo/ABC Poll: Democrat advantage on voter preferences and enthusiasm shrinks

New York Republicans have filed a complaint alleging

The new poll discovered that Democrats can possibly be competitive at the five Republican districts these mid-terms, together with voter preference across the five districts almost evenly divide for a generic GOP candidate (46%) in contrast with an Democrat (44 percent). "What remains consistent is Democrats running untested and flawed candidates against proven Republican leaders across New Jersey".

The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll shows that the number of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents registered to votes has fallen to 75% from 84% in November.

In competitive districts excluding Pennsylvania, where new boundaries were drawn this year, Democrats have an edge of 50 percent to 43 percent when voters are asked which party's candidates they would favor if the election in their district were held today.

Democrats have a 19-point advantage over Republicans in the generic House ballot among all registered voters in New Jersey, according to a Monmouth University Poll released Monday. In January, by contrast, Democrats held similar margins in all three groups - 13, 12 and 15 points, respectively. It had a margin of error plus or minus 3.7 percentage points for your complete sample and 3.9 percentage points for registered voters. In the Senate, the GOP advantage is slimmer, with 51 Republicans, 47 Democrats and two independents that caucus with the Democrats.

The incident resulted in gun control advocates haranguing both parties about rules tackling the issue.

As of the week of April 2-8, Trump's approval rating remained at 41 percent, with 54 percent disapproving of the job he is doing as president, according to Gallup.

Among all adults, Democrats held a wider lead of 10 percentage points over Republicans in the generic ballot.

In the previous two House elections, the aggregate vote from those districts averaged a 22-point advantage for the Republicans (59 percent to 38 percent in 2016 and 61 percent to 38 percent in 2014), according to the Monmouth University Polling Institute. Republican lawmakers in the state are using the law, which was passed in June 2017, to generate excitement among GOP votes.

Klarman said he's financing his new political donations using his share of the $1.5 trillion tax cut Trump signed into law late past year.

Among other results, the poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, finds more than three-quarters of Americans looking for a congressional candidate who agrees with them on gun policy.

Although public activism has put pressure on Republicans and the National Rifle Association, the Post-ABC poll suggests that neither party holds an advantage in support among the 42 percent of voters who say it's "extremely important" that a congressional candidate share their views on the issue.
