Wrangell Public Schools selects new superintendent

Butler School Board Seeks New Member

Along with Wick, school commissioners Kathy Olwell and David Kirk also voted against Obeng's new contract. "Having a school resource officer in the buildings has a number of benefits". Now, the board is considering the possibility of closing two schools: Parker Elementary School and Virgil Elementary School.

Following release of the report, board Chairperson Clare Wool said, "The newly elected School Board and Superintendent are eager to move forward committed to the unified goals of the district".

The district's initial deadline was March 23, but the job post indicated it would remain open "until a successful candidate is hired".

"We've never gone up to our maximum cap for the past several years", said Kevin Polunci, executive director of business and human resources. He noted that 20 years ago, there was a discussion about constructing a new school, but the decisions to renovate both the high school and middle school left the district in a hard position.

Piper was a high school social studies teacher for eight years, sharing his time between Wayne High School in Huber Heights and Jonathan Alder High School.

The district will also be paying off debt in upcoming years, which will cut the amount it now has to pay for debt service, he said. Such a model would have advantages, the district says, by allowing more collaboration between teachers as well as increased transportation flexibility. "Absolutely. I'm not saying that we're 100 percent", he said.

Piper received her bachelor's degree in secondary education from Wright State University in 1997 and his master's degree in education leadership from Wright State University in 2003.

School board members Herman Engel and Jeffrey Billig both talked about the need to authorize a level of spending that is necessary to do the project right, and to look for potential cost-savings throughout the design and bid process.

He has not returned multiple requests for comment, and the district has declined to comment.

More than 400 people participated in an online survey indicating their priorities with regard to a new district leader, Heres said in the statement. He said he thought Richardson would be able to "devote some attention to that this week".

Drost made a motion that all electronic devices, student information gathering surveys and questionnaires conducted outside the school district be terminated immediately and future requests should be approved by the board until a policy is passed.
