Idris Elba to Create, Star in Netflix Comedy Series 'Turn Up Charlie'

Idris Elba to turn'manny in new Netflix series Turn Up Charlie

Idris Elba is going back to the bachelor life - on TV, at least.

Turn Up Charlie will be one of the streaming service's next big original series', and will see Elba taking the role of Charlie. Called "Turn Up For Charlie", it will be eight half-hour episodes.

Sometimes, you'll even get you a man who can do both, like Idris Elba, who played Heimdall in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Thor: Ragnarok for Marvel, and is creating and starring in his own series for Netflix. Production will begin this May in the United Kingdom. Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito are co-executive producers. Elba's Green Door Pictures and Reich's Brown Eyed Boy Productions will co-produce the comedy series.

The news was announced at a Netflix press event Wednesday in Rome featuring content chief Ted Sarandos. But from spinning surprise sets in East London clubs, his career as a DJ has, much like his acting path, skyrocketed the Londoner to stardom.

Elba is best known for his role as John Luther on the BBC One drama Luther, for which he earned multiple Emmy nominations. He was also in Prometheus, Pacific Rim, Beasts of No Nation, for which he received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor, and Molly's Game. In fact, just a year ago he put his DJ skills to use in 2017 in both London and New York City, and even performed at Hi Ibiza this past summer, where he served as the show's resident DJ.

He's repped by WME and the Artists Partnership in the United Kingdom.
