Parkland Survivor David Hogg Calls For Boycott Of Two Companies

Hogg, who is followed by over 750,000 accounts on Twitter, used the social networking platform to launch the boycott on Tuesday.

BlackRock declined to comment on Hogg's tweets, but pointed to the action the company has taken in recent months on gun issues.

Fox News Host Laura Ingraham returned to her show this last week, but the number of companies pulling their ad dollars from her program continues, even after her brief hiatus.

In an email to International Business Times, a Vanguard spokesperson explained that most of its funds "do not have exposure to gun manufacturers" and that 359 of 388 of their funds do not directly invest in gun makers.

Ingraham went on vacation on March 3o after advertisers began bailing on her show because she mocked Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg for "whining" about not getting into colleges. She later apologised for any "upset or hurt" she had caused.

BlackRock, Invesco and Vanguard are the top three company holders of shares in American Outdoor Brands, the parent firm of Smith & Wesson Corp., one of the world's largest gun producers.

David Hogg speaks during the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., on March 24.

BlackRock and Vanguard are similarly the largest holders in Connecticut-based Sturm Ruger.

Mr. Hogg has become the face of the gun-control movement after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which he attended.

On April 5, BlackRock said that it would start offering gun-free retirement funds for investors looking to avoid owning a stake in those companies.

Vanguard told Yahoo Finance it was meeting "gun manufacturers and distributors" to discuss new safety measures, although it did not offer any specific details.

Vanguard is the second-largest shareholder in Sturm Ruger, and the third-largest shareholder in American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor.
