The President who was addressing the sixth convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) at Katra near Jammu said, "We have to think what kind of society we are developing".

"President is the constitutional head so he had to speak about the issue which has troubled everyone in the state and in the country". The President said that in today's world, universities and students need to emphasise research, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

Earlier in the day the president arrived here on his maiden two-day visit to Jammu. Despite the fact that our society till places more restrictions on girls than on boys, young women are achieving a lot, and in every field.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti had made clear that the BJP leadership should act against the ministers who had spoken in support of the rape accused. Condemning the heinous crime, President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday question the kind of Indian society is turning into.

The president would meet Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Ramalingam Sudhakar and other judges over breakfast here.
