Two suicide bombers kill three in north Nigeria mosque

Bama, Borno's second largest town was seized by Boko Haram late 2014, forcing thousands of residents to flee to Maiduguri, the state capital.

The incident occurred when two suicide bombers, a male and female between the ages of 13 and 14 invaded a mosque at about 5:15 am on Sunday morning around the Bama Dina area, when people were in the middle of prayers and detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).

Many were feared killed and several others injured, residents in the area said.

Abacha said two female bombers sneaked into the mosque at the time Muslim faithful were observing early morning prayers. Eight other persons were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Numerous displaced persons returned to the town three weeks ago after authorities assured them of security.

It was gathered that three persons died on the spot while one other died later at the Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri.

In a statement, local police said it cordoned off the area and had beefed up security around the town. The corpses have also been evacuated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the attack came barely four weeks after thousands of displaced persons were resettled in the community.

The chairman noted that the state government, in collaboration with the military, police and other security agencies had deployed personnel and constructed trenches to fortify security in the town.
