Kelly on Undocumented Immigrants: 'They Don't Integrate Well, They Don't Have Skills'

White House chief of staff John Kelly said President Donald Trump is "somewhat embarrassed" by the special counsel's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

First of all, it's a little odd choosing NPR to say how much you admire President Trump.

Asked if the investigation casts a "cloud" over the White House, Kelly told National Public Radio in a rare interview that aired Thursday night the probe "may not be a cloud" over the White House, but it does get discussed.

Kelly told NPR that he and Trump have a "close relationship", often spending up to eight hours each day together.

President Donald Trump (R) speaks to the press after the new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly (L) was sworn in, in the Oval Office of the White House, July 31, 2017 in Washington, DC.

He also said he wished he had been in his role sooner: "I think in some cases in terms of staffing or serving the president that first six months was pretty chaotic and there were people some people hired that maybe shouldn't have".

He continued, "But they're also not people that would easily assimilate into the United States". This means English was the language they spoke at home or that the person self-reported speaking the language well.

The claim was one of many Kelly made about immigrants who move illegally to the U.S. He noted that the majority of people immigrating to the U.S.

"They don't integrate well; they don't have skills".

Pop culture also heavily influences what people are naming their babies, for better or worse; that's why we have Dream, Khaleesi, Arya, Leia, and Anakin. And I sympathize with the reason.

Kelly said he tries to "speak truth to power". I always give my opinion on everything.

Kelly also said he would support a pathway to citizenship for the hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the USA under temporary protected status, many of them from Central American countries or Haiti, where conflict or natural disasters prompted many residents to flee. 'Sometimes he takes the opinion, sometimes he doesn't'.
