Sheriff to announce 'recent developments' in mysterious Lindsey Baum case

The man's business was on the route Baum would have taken to get home the night she vanished.

Officials announced Thursday the remains of Lindsey Baum, a girl missing from Grays Harbor County since 2009, have been found in Eastern Washington.

Lindsey was 10 years old when she disappeared on June 26, 2009 while walking the half-mile home from a friend's house in McCleary.

Scott said he was notified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation lab a few weeks ago that the remains found by hunters past year were identified as Baum.

"Seeing the age progression is a reminder of how much time we've missed and how much she's changed", Baum said.

Most recently, authorities in Grays Harbor County investigated a possible link between Baum's disappearance and three elderly Seattle brothers who were each charged past year with two counts of second-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexual conduct. He wouldn't detail the specific location, but said investigators were now scouring the area in the hopes of finding a clue that would point them to a suspect, who he called a "monster". ".Now, the reality is we need to find a homicide suspect".

'They were understandably devastated. "That was not the outcome that the family wanted to hear".

Last August, Scott said his office was investigating whether three Seattle brothers who police say collected child pornography for decades were linked to Baum's disappearances. For the last nine years we've not been able to say definitively what this was... "I'm aware of the possibilities, but I have always believed that - that she's alive and she's going to come home", Baum said during a 2013 interview.

"There's somebody out there who has information that will bring this case to a complete closure", Scott at the press conference.

"We need those people to have the courage to come forward".
