The launch of the smartphone follows the launch of BlackBerry KEYone, its premium Android handset with its renowned QWERTY keypad.

We've heard rumors and speculation about a new BlackBerry phone called the Key2 and now it's (just about) official - BlackBerry has sent out invitations to a special launch event in NY on June 7, and mentions the Key2 by name.

BlackBerry is all set to unveil the latest generation of its physical keyboard-touting KEY smartphone over a year since the launch of the KEYone. The company has posted this on its Twitter handle with the phrase "An Icon Reborn".

Alain Lejeune, BlackBerry president, had confirmed in January that the company plans to launch at least two smartphones in 2018. And while nothing was official back then, it looks like BlackBerry is ready to start teasing the device in a more official capacity. KEY2 was recently also spotted on Chinese certification site TENAA.

Though there's no official word on the KEY2 specs, the smartphone will essentially retain the design of older KEYone with iconic QWERTY keyboard. The TENAA listing shows the pictures of the upcoming device. Further, the phone is expected to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

The listing by TENAA showcased a dual rear camera setup on a Blackberry handset bearing model number BBF100-4.

Furthermore, the Key2 is rumoured to have a plastic build. The display will be a 4.5-inch 1620:1080 display and will boast of an aspect ratio of 3:2. There are speculations that KEY2 will support 4G LTE and dual-SIM support.
