A staff member of IndiGo airlines was arrested on Sunday for making a hoax call regarding a bomb in a Mumbai-bound flight at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

According to a tweet by ANI, few Mumbai bound flights from IGI Airport were physically checked.

A few months ago, the National Investigation Agency also booked a Mumbai-based jeweller for making a similar hoax call, under the new stringent anti-hijacking laws.

The accused, identified as Kartik Madhav Bhat, reportedly wanted to teach the budget carrier a lesson after his superiors warned him about his poor on-job performance. The call was later declared as Hoax. Because of the search exercise, all Mumbai-bound flights were delayed by two to three hours. During an investigation he told officials that his job performance was not up to the mark and he had been given a verbal notice to improve his performance in 3 months or face action.

The police team managed to locate the accused's house at Shubhashree Residency in Pune's Akurdi locality.

"The notice left him depressed and he chose to teach the airlines a lesson by making the false call", said the DCP.

Bhat, the only son of an executive engineer-rank officer, had passed intermediate and got a diploma in hospitality and aviation in 2013.

Thereafter, he started working in the aviation sector and was now employed with the IndiGo Airlines as Customer Service Officer at the Pune airport, they said. They said the identity of the caller was ascertained by checking the details of the mobile phone number used for the call.
