International Nurses' Day: President calls nurses 'true nation-builders'

Kohima: NPF legislator Keneizhakho Nakhro asserted that there was no greater satisfaction than to serve the people in times of need and despair and urged nurses to continue their good service to humanity. "But this number is not sufficient", he said.

The hard work and dedication to outstanding care given by the nurses at Andover War Memorial Hospital was celebrated ahead of International Nurses Day.

Nurses are used to gathering every information about the Patients and they are used to treat the Patient as per their Physical Situations.

Longkumer reminded the nurses that they were trained and educated to maintain the health and wellness of the individual and community.

The health worker was also awarded as best Health Worker in the district earlier this year.

The programme was attended by retired nurse officers, students and staff of NHAK.

Organised annually by the International Council of Nurses, International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world.

"I think the best thing about being a nurse is the diversity of people I have met throughout my career, I really feel like I've found my thing in life and have met so many characters along the way". He said that nurses were the backbone of the healthcare system.

Lauding the Health Ministry for its efforts and initiatives in improving and enhancing nursing education in the country. He further encouraged them to raise their voices in the government policy making.

Banerjee in a tweet said, "Today is International Nurses Day".

At the function, J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare conferred the Florence Nightingale Awards to 35 nurses from across the country in presence of Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Preeti Sudan, Secretary (Health). The day aims to increase public awareness of nursing and nurses' contributions towards health care.

This year's theme focusing on health as a human right attempts to enable the nursing fraternity in recognizing the philosophical basis of nursing whether it is health promotion, illness or trauma prevention, or acute and chronic treatment.
