Jon Jones Responds To Chuck Liddell's Callout

Chuck Liddell Officially Out Of Retirement, Vowing To Fight Tito Ortiz This November

The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion announced on Monday's MMA Hour; that he is officially coming out of retirement and is in negotiation to take part in a trilogy fight against a rival, Tito Ortiz, later this year.

In the three tweets, he posted: "Old Chuck has been calling me out for years!".

What was even more surprising was the fact he called out the supremely talented but always troubled Jon Jones for a match-up after he had two fights under his belt. "I'm serious I'd like a shot at him, but we'll see", said the former light heavyweight champion.

Liddell is exploring an option to come back to the sport while fighting under Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy brand and UFC president Dana White has already said numerous times he doesn't want to see the former champion compete again after his career ended back in 2010. I normally try to respect my elders but if you want it, come get it.

As for Jones, he's been busy battling the California State Athletic Commission and USADA since his recent failed drug test after his initial victory to win the UFC light heavyweight title over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in July of a year ago.

Taking the matter to Twitter, Jones posted a series of tweets to respond to Liddell's comments about potentially defeating Jones when he appeared on The MMA Hour. I'd literally fly you out to Albuquerque this weekend.

Liddell did go on to say that if the fight with Ortiz doesn't happen, he will still fight again and his opponent would likely be someone from his past.

"You might want to test the strength of that jaw before you take a bite you can't chew".

There have been mixed reactions to the whole situation.

As one might expect, Jones had something to say about the freakish call out as he took to Twitter a few hours after the announcement. Add Jones' repeated issues with drugs both recreational and performance-enhancing, and you have a match-up that makes about as much sense as it has a chance of actually happening.
